How to play Mine & Build
A free, Minecraft-style singleplayer sandbox. Create a Survival world to gather resources and survive, or a Creative world for unlimited building and flight.
In Singleplayer, select a world to export a backup file or recover a previous local save. Import World adds a separate copy. Backups do not contain the daily play allowance. Download files regularly: clearing browser storage deletes local saves and recovery copies.
Controls
- WASD moves. Mouse looks. Space jumps. Shift sneaks, and Ctrl sprints.
- Left-click mines or attacks. Right-click places, eats, fishes, blocks with a shield, or interacts.
- E opens inventory. F swaps the main hand and offhand. Q drops an item; Ctrl+Q drops the stack.
- 1–9 selects hotbar slots. Scroll cycles them. Shift-click moves inventory stacks quickly.
- Double-click matching inventory stacks to collect up to one full stack. Shift-click crafting output crafts as much as fits. Number keys over a focused inventory slot swap it with the hotbar.
- Escape pauses. F5 changes perspective. F3 opens debug information. F1 hides the HUD and F2 captures a screenshot.
- In Creative, double-tap Space to fly. Space rises, Shift descends. Middle-click picks a targeted block.
- Touch screens have movement, drag-to-look, mining, placement, jumping, sneaking and menu controls. Double-tap Jump to fly in Creative. F swaps hands. In inventory, use Move Stack, Split / Place One or Quick Move.
Your first day
Mine logs and turn them into planks. Craft a crafting table, sticks, a wooden pickaxe and then stone tools. Collect food, coal and wool. Light your shelter with torches before night. The recipe book shows ingredients and can fill your crafting grid.
Survival
- Equip a shield in your offhand and hold Use to block attacks from the front. Wait for the attack indicator to refill for a strong melee hit.
- Make a fishing rod from three sticks and two string. Cast onto water, wait for the bobber to dip and splash, then reel in quickly.
- Till dirt or grass with a hoe. Plant wheat seeds, carrots, potatoes or beetroot seeds. Water nearby helps crops grow; bone meal speeds growth.
- Find cocoa pods on jungle trees. Plant cocoa beans against jungle logs, grow them with bone meal, and use beans for cookies or brown dye.
- Tame wolves with bones and cats with raw cod or salmon. Right-click a tamed companion to switch between sitting and following.
- Craft concrete powder with four sand, four gravel and dye; contact with water hardens it. Sponges absorb water and become wet. Dry wet sponges in a furnace.
- Food restores hunger and saturation. Cooked food is more sustaining. Golden apples provide regeneration and absorption.
- Enchant equipment with lapis and XP. Find Mending books while fishing. Unbreaking reduces wear; Mending uses collected XP to repair equipped gear.
- Combine two damaged matching tools in a crafting grid to repair them. This crafting repair removes enchantments.
Exploration
- New worlds have continents, ocean shores, river valleys, mountains, meadows, birch forests and old-growth taiga with tall spruce trees. Existing worlds keep their original generator.
- Craft tuff and deepslate into polished blocks, bricks, slabs and stairs. Smelt bricks or tiles for cracked variants.
- Rabbits hop through meadows, deserts and snowy areas. Breed them with carrots or dandelions. Fish swim in schools, squid drop ink sacs, and desert husks do not burn in daylight.
- Animals follow their breeding food. Feed pigs carrots, potatoes or beetroots; feed cows and sheep wheat, and chickens seeds. Iron ingots repair damaged iron golems.
- Place up to four raw foods on a campfire. Each takes 30 seconds of active play to cook. A furnace also cooks rabbit, fish and potatoes. Rabbit stew restores ten hunger points and returns its bowl.
- Use an empty bucket on a cow to collect milk. Hold Use to drink it and clear status effects, including hunger from rotten flesh or husks.
- Water flows downhill, spreads up to seven blocks on flat ground, and drains when its source is removed. Two adjacent water sources can renew a pool over a solid floor. Lava spreads less far outside the Nether.
- Options offers Fast, Balanced and Fancy graphics. Fast uses a lower resolution and shorter view distance. The optional Lightweight Shader adds warm torchlight and water highlights in all dimensions. More Options contains individual adjustments.
Workstations and brewing
- A stonecutter turns stone into selected blocks, stairs or two slabs per input. A smoker cooks food twice as fast; a blast furnace smelts metals twice as fast.
- An anvil repairs tools with their material, combines compatible enchantments and enchanted books, preserving unrelated effects. Matching enchantments can increase a level; Fortune/Silk Touch and Infinity/Mending exclude each other. These actions cost levels. A grindstone repairs matching equipment or removes enchantments and returns some XP.
- Find a netherite upgrade template in a bastion treasure chest. Use the smithing table with a template, diamond equipment and a netherite ingot. Enchantments and damage carry over. Duplicate templates with seven diamonds and netherrack.
- A brewing stand needs blaze powder fuel. Fill glass bottles from water, then brew nether wart for awkward potions. Add sugar for swiftness, blaze powder for strength, spider eyes for poison, or other brewing ingredients. Each batch takes 20 seconds and can process three bottles.
- Redstone extends supported potion durations, glowstone strengthens supported effects, gunpowder makes splash potions, and fermented spider eyes corrupt certain effects. Hold Use to drink; use splash potions to throw them.
- Effects appear beside the timer and persist with your world. Milk clears effects. Honey clears poison. Cats following you near a bed can bring gifts after sleep, including phantom membranes for slow falling and elytra repairs.
More places and building choices
- Explore dark oak forests, bamboo jungles and mushroom fields. Look underground for layered amethyst geodes, lush vegetation and abandoned mine galleries with rails and wooden supports. These features appear in newly created worlds; old saves retain their terrain.
- Grow berries, sugar cane, nether wart, pumpkins and melons. Oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, cherry and azalea plants grow into their own trees with space and suitable soil. Dark oak requires a 2x2 group; spruce and jungle also support larger 2x2 trees. Use bone meal to encourage growth. Kelp grows upward in water. Placed leaves stay on your builds. Fruit stems need a free neighboring block over dirt, grass or farmland. Compost vegetation for bone meal. Dry kelp in a furnace or smoker.
- Geodes contain budding amethyst that grows buds above it. Wait for a full cluster and mine it with a pickaxe for shards. Budding amethyst itself does not drop.
- Copper ages through exposed, weathered and oxidized states. Apply honeycomb to wax it; an axe removes wax first, then scrapes oxidation. Build with copper grates, cut copper slabs and stairs, purpur and end stone brick shapes.
- Slimes and magma cubes hop and split when killed. Strays shoot slowing arrows. Drowned inhabit water, bats fly in caves, and mooshrooms can be milked, fed wheat, used with a bowl for stew or sheared into cows.
- Shear a pumpkin to carve it. Place a carved pumpkin over two snow blocks for a snow golem; it throws snowballs at monsters and leaves snow trails in suitable climates. A carved pumpkin over four iron blocks in a T makes an iron golem.
Building and wildlife
- New worlds include Stony Peaks, Snowy Slopes, Flower Forests and Sparse Jungles. Lowland rivers and safer tree placement make the landscape easier to explore and build on. Existing worlds retain their original terrain.
- Craft connecting stone walls, clear or colored glass panes, wood gates, trapdoors and doors. Gates and trapdoors open by hand or redstone. A stonecutter also offers the new stone shapes.
- Craft a candle from string above honeycomb. Dye it if desired. Place up to four matching candles together, use flint and steel to light them, and use an empty hand to extinguish them. More candles produce more light.
- Compress nine bamboo into a bamboo block, strip it with an axe, and craft bamboo planks and mosaic. Compress nine dried kelp into a fuel block, or unpack it again for food.
- Goats live in mountains, pandas in jungles, foxes in taiga and snowy areas, and polar bears in snowy areas. Feed goats wheat, foxes berries and pandas bamboo. Pandas need at least eight nearby bamboo blocks before breeding. Adult polar bears protect nearby cubs.
- Use a water bucket on cod, salmon, tropical fish, pufferfish or axolotls to catch them. Use the resulting bucket against a block to release the water and animal. Released animals remain with your local world. Feed axolotls tropical fish buckets to breed them.
- Keep your distance from inflated pufferfish and poisonous cave spiders. Axolotls hunt fish and can survive five minutes on land. Cave spiders and silverfish are available as Creative spawn eggs.
- Creative search includes all new building pieces. Focus a palette item and press 1-9 to copy a stack directly to that hotbar slot.
Automation, bees and turtles
- Hoppers move items into the container their outlet faces and pull from above. Place against a container side for a sideways outlet. Power a hopper to lock it. Feed furnace input from above, fuel from a side and extract output below.
- Droppers insert into a facing container or eject an item. Dispensers can shoot arrows, pour and scoop source water/lava, ignite TNT and use other supported items. Both activate once per power transition. Observers watch their face and pulse from the opposite side when the watched block changes.
- Look for bee nests near birch and oak trees in newly created flower forests, meadows and birch forests. Craft a beehive for another home. Bees feed on flowers and bring nectar home to produce honey.
- Use a glass bottle on a full hive for honey, or shears for three honeycomb. A lit campfire within five blocks below the hive, with a clear smoke path, keeps the bees calm. Disturbing them without smoke can provoke a sting.
- Feed two adult turtles seagrass. The parent needs nearby sand to lay its egg. Eggs hatch more readily at night; sneak around them to avoid trampling. A baby drops a scute when it grows up. Five scutes craft a Turtle Shell helmet that grants ten seconds of Water Breathing after submerging.
- Place slabs against an underside or the upper part of a side face for an upper slab. Place a matching slab into its empty half to make a full block. Mining the full block returns two slabs.
- Bamboo now has stairs, fences, gates, trapdoors and doors, alongside its planks, slabs and mosaic. All new recipes are available in the survival recipe book, and Creative search finds the new choices.
Exploring the Nether and End
- New worlds contain five Nether biomes and a continuing outer End archipelago with cities and some floating ships. Existing worlds keep their original terrain; create a new world for the new landscapes.
- Fortresses have Nether wart gardens and wither skeleton guards. Bastions have piglin brutes, which attack even if you wear gold. Hoglins live in Crimson Forests; warped fungus can drive them away.
- Craft a saddle with three leather and one iron ingot, use it on a strider, then Use again to ride. Hold Warped Fungus on a Stick to steer across lava, Use it to boost and Sneak to dismount. Striders dislike water.
- Craft a respawn anchor from six crying obsidian and three glowstone. Charge it using glowstone, then Use it in the Nether with another item or an empty hand to set your respawn point. Each respawn consumes a charge. Keep a safe floor and two blocks of clear space beside it. Charged anchors explode when used outside the Nether.
- Defeat the dragon to open an End gateway. Throw an Ender Pearl into the gateway to reach an outer island, where another gateway provides a return route. Search the islands for purpur cities, chests and ships.
- Ships display Elytra in an item frame. Attack the filled frame once to release the item. Use an occupied frame to rotate its display, or Use an empty one while holding an item to insert it.
- Shulkers resist attacks while closed. Their guided bullets cause Levitation; attack a bullet to destroy it. Wither skeletons cause Wither, which can kill. Milk clears these effects.
- Two shulker shells and a chest craft a portable 27-slot shulker box. Mine it to carry its contents, then place it to reopen them. A shulker box cannot contain another shulker box.
- Use bone meal on fungi growing on matching nylium to grow huge fungi. Bone meal also grows Nether vegetation and extends climbing vines. Ancient Debris and Netherite items survive falling into lava.
- With cheats enabled, use
/locate end_cityto find a city./killkills your player;/kill @eexplicitly clears mobs.
Better worlds, workshops and travel
- New worlds use smoother climate transitions, clustered gold/redstone/lapis deposits, village workstations and more varied chorus plants. Existing saves retain their original terrain. Biome colors blend on grass tops, suitable leaves and water in every Overworld save.
- Render Distance supports up to 32 chunks. Far Overworld and End landscapes are simplified to keep nearby gameplay responsive. The Nether has denser fog. Fast graphics can lower its temporary rendering resolution when frames stay slow; your saved setting stays unchanged.
- Place a matching workstation near a villager: a composter for a farmer, smithing table for a toolsmith, brewing stand for a cleric, lectern for a librarian, smoker for a butcher, fletching table for a fletcher or stonecutter for a mason. New-world villagers need a job site. Each offer has limited stock; daytime work at the matching station allows restocking.
- Bookshelves power an enchanting table from two blocks away, with an empty one-block gap. Keep both heights of that gap clear. Fifteen shelves give a top offer requiring level 30; it spends three levels and three lapis. Shift-click an unenchanted tool into the table. Use an anvil for existing enchanted gear.
- Plant crops on watered farmland with enough light. Open rows grow faster than dense planting of the same crop. Exposed rain hydrates farmland; a solid roof blocks it.
- Use or attack the dragon egg in Survival to make it teleport. It falls when unsupported: place a torch below its fall to collect it as an item. Falling blocks now resume if you save or leave the dimension while they are in the air.
- Boats move much faster on ice roads, especially blue ice. Sneak dismounts. In Survival, middle-click a block to select a matching hotbar stack or swap it in from your backpack.
- Chat supports Tab suggestions and Up/Down history. With cheats enabled, try
/tp ~ ~ ~5,/give @s minecraft:diamond 3,/effect give @s night_vision 60 0or/xp add @s 5 levels. Block-editing commands use/setblock x y z blockand/fill x y z x y z block, with a 4,096-block fill limit.
Landscapes, tools and gardens
New worlds use continuous climate fields: biome regions cross chunk borders with curved boundaries, smoother foothills and blended vegetation colors. Existing worlds keep their original terrain; create a new world to explore these landscape changes.
- Use an axe on a log to strip it. Stripped logs make four matching planks and can fuel a furnace. Use a shovel on exposed dirt or grass to make a dirt path. A hoe tills dirt paths and turns coarse or rooted dirt back into dirt; rooted dirt also gives hanging roots.
- Sugar cane needs suitable soil and water directly beside the soil, or another cane block. Diagonal water is insufficient. Cactus needs sand or cactus underneath and clear sides. Plants lose support when their growing conditions disappear.
- Redstone wires can climb a solid step with headroom. An overhead solid block prevents that climb. Separate circuits retain their own signals when another circuit changes.
- With cheats enabled, use
/locate biome desertto search nearby terrain without loading chunks, or/locate structure village./spawnpoint @s ~ ~ ~sets your Overworld respawn position; these searches and commands have bounded ranges.
